Hey there movie lovers, for this December’s Graphic Content selection we’ve decided to go with something really special, a film that we believe is going to be one of the highlights of our entire run: Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind! Not only are we pleased to present this seminal work, but we are screening a brand new 35 mm print and showing it among three other beautiful Miyazaki films that are screening as part of Metro Cinema‘s short Four Films by Hayao Miyzaki retrospective!
In the far future after a devastating calamity known as the “Seven Days of Fire”, the Kingdom of Tolmekia, represented by Kushana (voiced by Uma Thurman) gets its hands on an ancient superweapon, threatening to begin the cycle of violence and destruction once again. The Valley of the Wind’s courageous Princess Nausicaä (voiced by Alison Lohman) must intervene before the short-sighted Tolmekians destroy the Toxic Jungle, a strange and wonderful place inhabited by large insectoid mutants.
We are proud to present one of the greatest animated films ever made. Adapted from Miyazaki’s own epic manga series of the same name, Nausicaä is the visionary director’s second film and it ultimately launched Studio Ghibli itself. Often considered to be Miyazaki’s masterpiece, a distillation of his philosophy of environmentalism and heroism.
Tuesday, December 18th at 7:00 PM. The movie is rated G and runs for 117 minutes. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. Metro Passes will be accepted. Box office opens at 6:15, so come on by early to check out the comics we’ve selected to go with the movie supplied by Warp One Comics and Games. RSVP on Facebook. Since this is such a big movie for us, if you can’t make it to our screening, Metro has scheduled a couple of encores on Friday, December 21 at 4:00 and Thursday, December 27 at 2:00. And make sure to catch the rest of the Miyazaki retrospective all this month at Metro Cinema (and, between you and me, continuing in future months), as well as a special encore screening of last year’s blockbuster event AKIRA on December 21st!
